About the Item

A finely crafted two-seat bench by Gareth Neale and Kevin Gauld, titled ‘Brodgar’, made circa 2012. This piece draws inspiration from traditional Orkney furniture, with a hand-woven straw backrest and solid oak frame, combining time-honoured techniques with a refined, contemporary sensibility. The bench features three frieze drawers seamlessly built into the apron, offering discreet and practical storage without compromising the elegance of the design. Neale and Gauld are among the few makers preserving and evolving the legacy of Orkney straw work, and this bench is a testament to their craftsmanship.
