About the Item
A striking and large scale Italian 18th century Louis XVI period giltwood bench. The bench is raised by handsome paw feet below most attractive X shaped supports. The supports are connected by a carved turned foliate fluted stretcher and display a recessed hammered burnished design all framed within a beaded border. At the center is the original iron rosette around which the bench folds. Above are four most impressive and richly carved cherubs with wonderful detail. Displayed with a black leather seat and cushion. All original gilt throughout.
