About the Item
Extraordinary pair of benches painted in grisaille technique based on motifs from Greek Antiquity with the coat of arms of the Lucchesi Palli Family. The folders on three sides decorated. In the center, two representations of Pegasus flank the coat of arms of the family that owns the Suvera villa. In addition, mythical representations from Greek antiquity enrich these paintings. The folders are clamped at the back with corresponding grisaille paintings on canvas. The benches have a swivel base and are marked "Apollo" and "Mercurio" and dated on the front panel: 1847. According to our information they were made for a large family celebration at that time. Siena dated 1847. According to recent research and the kind indications of doctor Victor Veronesi, it seems that the origin of the manufacture of the two benches dates back to the long preparation for the marriage of Carlo (X), Carlo Alberto Massimo Prince of Arsoli (Rome 3.12.1836 - 21.1.1921) and Donna Francesca Romana Lucchesi Palli (Graz-Brunsee? 12.10.1836 - Rome 10.5.1923) in 1860. Donna Francesca Lucchesi Palli was the daughter of Count Ettore Lucchesi Palli, Duke of Grazia (Palermo, 2.10.1806 - Brunsee, 1.4.1864) and Maria Carolina Ferdinanda Luisa princess of Bourbon two Sicilies (Naples 5.11.1798 - Brunsee 17.4.1870). Thus, the two benches become an important Italian period document, probably created on the occasion of this marriage. It is not unusual for preparations to have begun several years before such an important family event and for the equipment and layout of the venue to have already been undertaken. There are all the details available.

In Siena he also worked at the Teatro dei Rinnovati (1832), the Teatro dei Rozzi and the Duomo, as well as creating ponti, dighe, steccati and pescaie ; in the fifth century of the Ottocento, he worked on the church of San Giuseppe, where a new chapel was created, on the church of San Leonardo, on the altar of the church of Saints Peter and Paul, on the chapel of the Holy Sepulchre and on the slates of the church of Santa Maria in Provenzano, and on the church of San Pietro alla Magione.
Among his works of residential architecture, he designed the façade of Palazzo Pozzesi (1823), the refurbishment of Palazzo Puccioni, Palazzo Staderini, Palazzo Brancadori (1828) and the Borghesi Casino (1825), the gardens of Villa di Scorgiano and Casa Malavolti, the extension and interior stage of Villa Spannocchi, Villa Il Pavone...

18th century, pair of Italian Baroque lacquered and gilt wood benches
This particular pair of baroque benches was made in Rome, Italy, in the second half of the 18th century.
Their wooden structure is entirely sculpted, lacquered and gilded in Mecca. It consists of a seat with a profile moved from which depart two armrests characterized by arched elements, moved and culminating in curls. The effect of great movement is enhanced by the decorations of rocaille taste with volutes and leaves that surround them creating dynamism.
The band under the seat, quadrangular and move, is decorated with rocaille elements and framed with reserve that creates curls in some points of connection. The six curved legs, characteristic of the Baroque era, are decorated with phytomorphic elements and end with a curly...
