Tião, Minimalist Shoe Bench with Storage, Brazilian Contemporary, by Danilo Vale

About the Item

Inspired by the construction rebar columns used in buildings, the Tião product family beholds a strong relation with the Industrial style through its exposed metal frames contrasting to the seat upholstery. The name "Tião" is an homage to the workman mason*, an important character in construction sites, especially those who left their hometowns to face the unknown in the endeavor of establishing Brasilia. The version of Tião bench with shoe rack was created in 2020 during the covd-19 pandemic, aiming to meet the habit of taking off shoes when entering the house *'Tião', the shortening of "Sebastião" in Brazil, was a common name among lower-income classes through the time of construction of Brasilia, and is commonly used to refer to unseen people, marginalized in society, similar to "Joe Blow" or "Joe Bloggs". Another name used in the same context is "Zé". (Translator's Note).

Balanço Bench by Rodrigo Ohtake, Brazilian Contemporary Design
By Rodrigo Ohtake
Located in Sao Paulo, SP
The Balanço Bench was created by the Brazilian contemporary designer Rodrigo Ohtake, in 2019. The mix of materials is the differential in this series. While wood is used as a seat, a metal plate, thick and curved, raises the first material from the ground in a light way and with minimal contact, both with the floor and with the wood. The structure is made of stainless steel and Cumaru Wood. Definitely a one of a kind and unique piece. Graduated at FAU / USP in 2009, with a period of studies at the Polytechnic of Milan, Rodrigo Ohtake is always in search of his own architectural style. Passionate about colors and free forms, he collaborated with architects Mario Biselli, Alvaro Puntoni, and Frenchman Patrick Jouin, in addition to working with his father, Ruy, from 2008 to 2016. In addition to working in the offices, he participated as a curatorial assistant in the exhibitions "Viver na Floresta", curated by Abílio Guerra, "O Coração da Cidade: Invention of Spaces" by Júlio Katinsky...
