Vintage Midcentury Italian Bench Wood And Fabric Dedar Prince Of Wales

About the Item

We kindly suggest that you read the entire description, as it provides detailed technical and historical information to guarantee the authenticity of our items. This refined Italian bench in Art Deco style features a solid rectangular frame with a comfortable upholstered cushion. The legs, which are solidly attached to the ends, boast a strong and functional design made of ebonized wood. The bench was created between 1950 and 1955 in an artisan workshop in Cantù. Located in the province of Como in Lombardy, Italy, Cantù is renowned for its tradition in luxury furniture production. It is considered an important center for furniture craftsmanship, known for high-quality, designer pieces. Luxury furniture production in Cantù is characterized by excellent craftsmanship, attention to detail, and the use of high-quality materials. The city also attracts internationally renowned designers and architects who collaborate with local artisans to create unique, custom-made pieces. In creating our bench, the artisans aimed to devise a small object with bold, simple lines, resulting in a piece with timeless elegance. Its design balances austerity and strictness, and its exaggerated linearity gives the bench a dynamic and elegant character. Recently, the bench was restored by an old master craftsman from Prato, who skillfully handcrafted the new cushion cover using a special and important fabric: a heavy Prince of Wales linen from the Dedar collection. Founded in 1976 in Lombardy, Dedar is a high-end textile company known for its creativity and high-quality fabrics. Their production excellence is due to the expertise of artisans and textile experts who master the techniques used in creating exclusive and original fabrics. Dedar's products reflect a unique style, creating collections that are always at the forefront of high fashion for upholstery fabrics. The Italian style and design of this Lombard company are renowned worldwide. The "Prince of Wales" fabric is best known for its distinctive check pattern with overlapping lines of contrasting colors. The name is a tribute to Edward VII (1841-1910), who later became King of England and, as a young Prince of Wales, was known for his refined taste in clothing. This fabric has become synonymous with elegance and sophistication, largely due to its association with the British royal family and sartorial style. The "Prince of Wales" pattern is one of the most recognizable and classic designs in the fashion world. It can be used in a variety of contexts, from formal to casual, and is prized for its ability to add a touch of class to any garment. The restored bench is in excellent condition. Its dimensions are: width 55 cm, depth 37 cm, height 45 cm, and seat height 45 cm. For all our shipments, we use special packing materials (custom-made wooden crates, styrofoam, etc.) to ensure maximum protection and safety of the items.

Louis XVI Style French Bench with "Vienna Straw" Seat
Located in Prato, Tuscany
We kindly suggest you read the whole description, because with it we try to give you detailed technical and historical information to guarantee the authenticity of our objects. Interesting and graceful oak bench; the legs, conical and elegantly fluted, are joined at the base by a well-designed and harmonious X-shaped element; the well-solid frame is carved with simple, linear, and refined motifs; the upper oval part serves as the seat is enriched with fine "Vienna straw" work. The bench was made between 1880 and 1885 in an artisan workshop near Paris certainly by a very skilled master cabinetmaker because this kind of workmanship requires a lot of experience and skill. The process of seat construction using equidistant holes and a woven plant material (drawn guinea cane) was known since Egyptian times (a stool was found in the tomb of the architect Kha dating from 1600° B.C.), but it was from the mid-19th century that it became popular worldwide. It was the Austro-Hungarian cabinetmaker Michael Thonet (father of bentwood) who in 1842 created chair No. 4 with this technique for the Daum café on Vienna's Kohlmarkt, but success came in 1859 when the Gebruder Thonet company of Michael's sons presented chair No. 14 made of curved solid wood with a straw seat...
