Henry P. Gill – Signed Pair of Oil Paintings with Provenance and Dated 1891
Located in Heathfield, GB
A good pair of 19th century still life paintings, oil on board by the British Victorian Period artist Henry P. Gill who flourished in the 1880s and 1890s.
The first with two beautifully painted long stemmed roses alongside a branch of lavender, white periwinkle, creeping forget-me-not and lily of the valley. With bee and ladybird. Signed to right hand lower margin ‘H. Gill’ and set in its original period giltwood frame and gilt slip. To verso of this picture is a label which reads ‘Presented to Mrs. Scott by the Artist, October 19th 1891.
The second with cut lemons in a glass surrounded by grapes, pear, apple, white currants and a peach with a wasp hovering above. Also signed to lower margin right ‘H. Gill’.
Extremely beautiful and realistic and in original period frame and gilt slip. To verso of the board inside is a label which reads ‘Glass and Fruit, November 14th 1891. Presented to my wife Kate by J.A. Scott.
Which goes to show that life and times are not so changed over the centuries.
