Swedish Late Gustavian Neoclassical Style Suite

About

Gorgeous and rare painted and parcel gilt Swedish late Gustavian Neoclassical style salon suite, consisting of settee, two bergeres flanked with griffins, marble topped table, together with four matching side chairs. Ca. 1850. Wonderful settee and pair of bergeres of carved, painted, and gilded wood. Handsome and muscular gilded griffins, guardians of gold and companions of Apollo, grace each majestic arm. Elegant and classic marble topped table, with four graceful sidechairs. This would be an extraordinary suite installed in an embassy or Ambassador's residence, or anywhere where a truly stately, grand and historical welcome is desired. Listed dimensions are for bergeres. All pieces are in excellent structural condition. Some losses. Have been repainted at a later date with re-gilding/touch ups as well. Varying degrees of current paint and gilding loss. Minor cracks and wear to table. Settee upholstery in fair condition with minor stains, and bergeres/side chairs upholstery in need of replacing. Marble top in good condition with very minor wear. Please see photographs as part of condition report, and we are happy to send more detailed photos upon request. We have chosen to leave this remarkable set in the condition in which we acquired it, so that the designer can modify after preference (re-paint, scrape, re-upholster) etc. We are also happy to work with you to create the look you desire in our own workrooms. Price as is.
