About the Item

18th Century, Pair of Louis XVI French Lacquered Wood Corbeille Canapes The refined pair of corbeille sofas, made in France in the second half of the eighteenth century, Louis XVI Period, has a semi ovoid structure whose back turns sideways continuing in a single wrapping curve that forms the armrests. The wooden structure, entirely lacquered, is carved with neoclassical motifs, that is, floral and phytomorphic ornaments. The frame that has a slightly curved and molded runs to draw the back, the armrests stylized curl, the band under the seat and the legs. The latter, eight, have an inverted cone trunk, grooved and originate from a quadrangular element centered by a flower-shaped carving. The sofas, with two seats, are covered in fabric in good condition. These sofas are very graceful as a whole: they are in fact particularly decorative and the enveloping shape, as well as the graceful legs, make optically very discreet their footprint. They are also particularly suitable to be combined, in pairs or individually, with contemporary furnishings as well as vintage. Also usable as center sofas.
