French 19th Century Canapé with Richly Carved Décor and New Upholstery

About the Item

A French wooden canapé from the 19th century, with richly carved décor, out-scrolling arms and ribbon-tied floral garlands. Created in France during the 19th century, this canapé draws immediately the attention with its natural color and abundantly carved décor. The canapé features a straight back topped with a wicker basket overflowing with flowers and leaves. This back is connected to two tall arms presenting out-scrolling extremities accented with foliage. The seat and back have been newly reupholstered with a linen fabric whose neutral tones compliment the structure beautifully. Coin stack style motifs and rope moldings run along the rails while the front skirt is adorned with an exquisite décor presenting delicate ribbon-tied garlands of flowers. The canapé was stripped to its natural wood, some traces of paint are still visible. The ensemble is resting on four short carved feet. With its elegant lines and skillfully carved décor, this French canapé from the 19th century will make for a wonderful addition to any living room!
