French Louis XVI low caned fireside slipper chair, 18th century.
This very rare and exceptional low chair is very old, and has withstood the test of time in a remarkably good state, with a minor loss to the base of the caning in a lower corner of the back (see picture). The caning has a lovely pattern. This low, deep chair was probably a fireside chair. However small metal bolts in the back suggest that it may have at some point been attached, possibly to a vehicle or to some kind of carrying device.
It is beautiful and highly decorative. Though it is quite comfortable, we do not recommend it be used for seating to protect the antique caned seat...
