About the Item
Mid Century Modern Giancarlo Vegni designed pair of P-90 arm chairs, black saddle leather over metal frame, for Fasem, Italy, 1970s. A contemporary of Mario Bellini's CAB 413 armchairs for Cassina.
These armchairs are constructed of the highest quality vegetable dyed black full grain saddle leather. The leather completely wraps a metal frame, two synthetic resin ferrules at the tip of the uprights of the back, minimal padding, which supports the lower back an a plastic base to compensate for stress on the seat.
Conceptually, the chair was designed to become marked and shaped over time by its user. Although, this pair retains their original shape. The leather skin fits like a glove over the steel skeleton and fastens underneath. The whole design focuses on the way the side joins the back to support the weight of an arm. In order to make the base of the armrest comfortable and strong, the leather is appropriately shaped and formed in a double layer.
Vegni studied at the Art School of Cascina, Pisa; he introduced innovative solutions in the design of kitchens and then enlarged his interests and went on to design a wide range of products and important interiors.
His predilection for clean signs, round lines and modular geometries characterizes his work and the work of the design studio he leads.
