Wonderful vintage Bauhaus pair of Chromcraft armchairs in the style of Cesca Chairs by Marcel Breuer comprised of chrome tube cantilever bases, natural cane backs, wood armrests, and orange hopsacking fabric seats with button detail. Beautiful condition, keeping in mind that these are vintage and not new so will have signs of use and wear even if it has been refinished or restored. Specifically, it has been professionally shampooed but it still retains a few spots on the fabric. This incredible vintage pair of Chromecraft armchairs is comprised of marvelous chrome tube cantilever bases, beautiful natural cane backs, natural tone wood armrests, and striking orange hopsacking fabric seats with button detail. Marcel Breuer designed the Cesca Chair in 1928. The design married traditional craftsmanship with industrial methods and helped to make tubular steel furniture an international sensation and a modern institution. This pair is bursting with comfort and a versatile Bauhaus presence that will blend in beautifully with many décor styles whether mid-century modern, modern, Art Deco, Art Moderne, and Streamline Modern to name a few! They would be fabulous utilized as host and hostess seats at your dining table, in a sitting room with an accent table in between, or extra seating in just about ANY room of your home!! Versatility, comfort, and a timeless style you are sure to love for years to come! Chromcraft was originally named American Fixture and Manufacturing Company and began business in Missouri in 1908. In 1939 they began making metal furniture. Since chrome was the material of the age, they named that division Chromcraft and later incorporated it as a separate company in 1955. By 1960 needing to expand they constructed a plant in Senatobia, Mississippi. Changing hands and consolidating with other companies they remained in business until 2014. In 2015 their assets were purchased, and they once again began production. Chromcraft is best known for its fabulous mid-century dinette sets. Fabulous vintage pair of modern chrome cantilever chairs with original oatmeal hopsacking and black plastic armrests by Steelcase labeled Model #421-482. Beautiful condition, keeping in mind that these are vintage and not new so will have signs of use and wear. There are some small scratches on the chrome and two of the buttons on each seat have been replaced using fabric salvaged from bottom of chair. Buttons are a slightly different size, but you must examine closely to tell. Please see photos and zoom in for details. We attempt to portray any imperfections. Circa, 1981. Spectacular Style and Stunningly Steelcase!! Their tag is labeled Model # 421-482 and they are comprised of a gorgeous chrome cantilever frame with black plastic armrests, and they wear their original oatmeal colored hopsacking fabric with button detail on the seat back and cushion. Super stylish and super comfortable!! They are the perfect pair of accent chairs whether you have a modern aesthetic, industrial, modern country, rustic, Art Deco, or Hollywood Regency décor. They could be used in a living room setting, your master bedroom, home office, entry, or as host and hostess chairs in your dining room. Or mix them with your modern country or mountain home décor and use them in as extra seating or at a game table in the family room. They are going to be an incredible addition to any space in your home! Steelcase was founded as the Metal Office Furniture Company in 1912 by Peter M. Wege in Grand Rapids, Michigan. The Metal Office Furniture Company's first products included fireproof metal safes and four-drawer filing cabinets which Wege invented and manufactured for the Macey Company. In 1914, the company received its first product patent for "The Victor," a fireproof steel wastebasket. The Victor gained popularity due to its light weight achieved through a patented process of bending flat steel at right angles to create boxes, and its ability to prevent fires at a time when smoking was common indoors, particularly in the workplace. In 1915, the company began manufacturing and distributing steel desks and in 1937, the company collaborated with Frank Lloyd Wright on office furniture. The partnership lasted two years and resulted in some of the first modern workstations. The company officially changed its name to Steelcase, Inc. in 1954 and became known as the leader of the furniture industry in the late 1960s due to the volume of its sales and in 1973, the company debuted the Series 9000 furniture line.
