19th Century French Gothic Revival Chair

About the Item

19th Century French Gothic Revival chair is a wonderful testament to the craftsmen of a bygone era! Hand-sculpted from old growth oak, it features a trapezoidal seat which creates a shape great for anywhere in the room, especially the corner. The seatback uprights are one piece of wood from the carved lions on top to the floor, and bracket the seatback which consists of a stunning pierce-carved study in the Gothic manner including a variety of geometric and symbolic shapes, including stylized fleurs de lys and grape clusters. The seat and support framework below are a study in contrast, with only an egg & dart bordering under the seat planks for adornment, while supplying sturdy support reinforced by stretchers and finished with teardrop feet in front. Circa 1860s Measures 44.5 H x 23 W x 20 D; seat 19 H.
