About the Item
Six dining chairs with leather and nailwork. 20th century Portuguese, in turned wood, carved and patinated in black. The work reveals a strong historicist influence, evoking the Baroque aesthetic by using typical decorative elements such as ‘twisted and shaken’. The chairs feature spiral columns on the front legs and crosspieces, as well as shaken mouldings on the back and seat, forming a repetitive and expressive geometric pattern. The backrest is high and rectangular, decorated with carvings and reliefs, adding grandeur to the whole. Both the back and the seat are made of carved leather, fixed with visible metal nails, reinforcing the handmade nature of the pieces.
This is a decorative set with a strong aesthetic presence, ideal for classic or revivalist-inspired environments, reflecting the know-how of Portuguese cabinetmaking from the early 20th century. One of the chairs has arms.
