About the Item
Maçka, defined by its juxtaposed simple geometrical forms, is a seating collection consisting of dining & corner chairs, bar stool and love & lounge benches. The designs elegantly reduced form and material offer a surprising siluette with a floating backrest and different seating positions. Inspired by the hidden modernist jewels contrasting the ancient architecture of the city, Maçka is a true Istanbulite.
Produced in black, red powder-coated metal & stainless steel frames paired with fabric, leather upholstered and stainless steel seats, the collection offers different combinations of materials, textures and colors. Default upholstery options offered are from Camera and Cuero textiles that are suitable for both commercial and residential interiors. We also provide bespoke upholstery services specified for interior projects.

DAY Studio
DAY Studio is a multidisciplinary design and consultancy office founded by
Doğanberk Demir and Yeşim Eröktem in 2015 following their masters degree at
ECAL. The studio works on various fields from furniture and lighting to
textile design, table-top accessories to industrial products and packaging
design. DAY works with local and international companies including Habitat, Frette,
Flormar, Gaia&Gino and Chivas next to their own brand AVLU, a collection
focused on local manufacturing techniques, creating dialogue between design
and İstanbul's rich crafts culture. Yeşim and Doğanberk fuses their
cultural sensibility with a contemporary approach to create simple and
functional objects. Their work has been exhibited at Wallpaper* Handmade,
Salone del Mobile, Downtown Design Dubai, London Design Festival and
Istanbul Design Week and featured at Wallpaper*, SightUnseen, Vogue,
Architectural Digest and Elle Decoration magazines. The studio has received
prestigious Kristal Elma and EDIDA awards and nominated for Wallpaper* The
Officine Panerai Next Generation Designer of the Year.
AVLU
AVLU -meaning courtyard in Turkish- is a furniture and home decor brand founded by DAY Studio in 2015. Inspired by the material and object culture of Istanbul and Turkey, AVLU exclusively works with local craftsmen and translates their vernacular techniques and knowledge into contemporary, sophisticated and affordable design objects. AVLU collection includes purposeful everyday objects from service platters to containers and thoughtfully produced furniture. Aimed to create a unique Turkish design brand, first collections ‘Istanbul’ and ‘Playful Minimalism’ included containers based on the iconic buildings of Istanbul to marble marquetry of Hagia Sophia-inspired plates and platters inspired by street carts of the Istanbul esnafs to service set and candleholders informed by the domes of Grand Bazaar, starting off an on going dialogue between craftsmen and DAY Studio designers -Yeşim Eröktem and Doğanberk Demir- with a reflection on their culture that will grow collaborating with other designers. ‘AVLU name derived from the courtyards of artisans in Grand Bazaar where our first product development took place. We believe in local manufacturing networks and a sustainable business model from design and production to sales to create equally sustainable products. We create a visual language around this idea and create everyday objects for the home.’

Born in Australia, Tom Fereday grew up in England studying at the Wimbledon School of Art before moving to Sydney to complete an honours in Industrial Design at the University of Technology Sydney. Working across Europe and Australia Tom Fereday went onto found his sole practice in 2012.
