About the Item

An interesting antique folding fruitwood and canvas chair with royal and military interest. Used at the Smith's Lawn in Windsor in 1915, Queen Mary's camp. London Silver hallmarked plaque. Delivery included to the mainland UK. Smith’s Lawn is a notable area within Windsor Great Park, renowned for hosting prestigious polo events such as the Queen’s Cup and the Cartier International Day. During World War I, Smith’s Lawn served as a military camp. This area has a long tradition of royal connections and has been part of the history of Windsor Great Park. The chair is made of cherry wood with plywood slats which have a central tulip pierced decoration. The wood has the original patina and the canvas is also original, showing signs of use to the fabric. The studs to the side of the seat have been replaced with larger examples, as there was some wear to one side. There is no damage to the frame, but due to the design of this chair there is movement to the joints and some creaking. It is however usable. The arm heights are 68.5cm. The seat height is 48cm and the inside seat width is 43cm.

Pair of Aesthetic Movement Small Folding Chairs E.W Godwin Manner
Located in Norwich, GB
A pair of Aesthetic Movement small walnut low folding decorative chairs with cane seats, in the manner of E.W. Godwin. Circa 1870s. Free delivery to the UK via a selected parcel company. The walnut frames are in very good condition and have their original patina, showing some age with use, they have been lightly waxed. One of the chairs cane seats professionally re-caned, and it has been aged to resemble the other original cane seat. This same chair has had the under rail replaced in oak with two bolts, as shown in photograph number 12. This was done many years ago - I would say about 80 plus years, looking at the construction. Also added at a similar time under the seat, one small rail either side. The wooden dome...
