About the Item

The success of lacquered models has slowly invested the world market, adding another medal to the history of Italian design. It is in this fervor (we come to 1970) that the Kazuki chair was born, which is an example of absolute rationalism and is the first modern mass-produced piece of furniture on which glossy lacquer has been applied. MDF sides, birch plywood seat and back, frame with shaped edges with semicircular cross-section, polyester lacquer with high-gloss mirror finish. Like all the furniture designed by Kazuhide Takahama, the Kazuki chair is distinguished by rigor, formal cleanliness and a language of poetic essentiality in which signs belonging to the Eastern culture in which Kazuhide Takahama was trained and the Western culture in which he immersed himself overlap. Influenced by Japanese tradition, Kazuhide Takahama with the decisive help of Dino Gavina lacquered the surfaces of his chair. It is the birth of lacquered furniture and its production technique, within the modern industrial process. The Armchair consists of four elements made entirely of orange lacquered solid wood/goosebeak. KAZUHIDE TAKAHAMA: He completed his architectural studies in Tokyo and began working in Kazuo Fuioka's studio. He came to Italy in 1957 for the Milan Triennale and here he met Dino Gavina with whom he would collaborate at length. In contact with Italy's most active designers, he resumed in this lively climate of cultural exchange to develop his own stylistic lexicon that would become increasingly defined. Simon by Cassina Cassina acquires Dino Gavina's Simon brand, two historic brands that carry on the history of Italian design. The fundamental concept of the company, which was founded in 1968, is to continue thinking about and producing furniture elements that have created the roots of design culture, furniture that are now timeless classics that have established a dialogue between artistic research and production-Ultramobile Collection-and have transcended the limits of rationalism by elevating design to the great traditional values-Ultramotional Collection. The collections include works by artists such as Carlo Scarpa, Marcel Breuer, Kazuhide Takahama, Tobia Scarpa, Man Ray, and Meret Oppenheim. Thus, a perfect combination is born that allows historic and poetry-rich furniture elements to be revived and still give passion to the history of design.
