Set of six French chairs made of curved beech wood; they are the "Bèmole" model from the famous French company Walter Baumann; the Bémole chair, also known as the Sleigh or Luge chair, is an iconic seat of the Baumann brand. It corresponds to the design furniture fashion of the 1960s with expressive and innovative shapes. The construction is of high quality, the frame is made of steam-curved beechwood, and the rounded edges and folded back provide a striking organic shape. The base formed by side frames gave it the nickname sled. The seats have been reupholstered with sturdy green fabric. The Baumann Manufacture was a furniture manufacturing company. It was one of the most important companies in the 20th-century chair market. Founded in 1901 by Swiss Emile Baumann, it produced children's chairs and was located in a former clog factory in Colombier-Fontaine in the Doubs, France, where it strongly developed the bentwood technique. The company was taken over in 1903 by his son Walter, who became one of the largest manufacturers of bentwood furniture along with Thonet. The company closed in 2003. Baumann very quickly surrounded himself with the best engineers and technicians and distinguished himself to make Baumann a brand of high-quality manufacturing through the choice of materials and assembly techniques, innovation through the development of steam-bent beech wood, and customer loyalty by offering replacement parts such as wooden seat bottoms to replace worn or damaged ones. The French manufacturer also knew how to adapt its models to the trends of its time by offering, for example, in the 1960s a more elegant series with more noble materials (our chairs belong to this period). The Baumann industry has created nearly 250 types of chairs over the years. The models are therefore very varied and have had their share of modernity based on the era of their design. Our chairs were made of beech wood from the surrounding forests in Colombier-Fontaine between 1964 and 1968. Our iconic chairs have a line inspired by Scandinavian style, have a linear and essential design, a top-quality finish, and exceptional seating comfort. The chairs have been reupholstered so they are in very good overall condition. Measurements width com.50, depth cm.50, height cm.81, seat cm.46. For all our shipments we use special packaging materials (wooden crates, styrofoam, etc.) for maximum protection and safety of the objects.
