Carlo de Carli Set of Six Rare Chairs from the Fifties

About the Item

Elegant set consisting of six chairs with velvet seat and wooden frame with slender back, attributable to Carlo De Carli Italian production late 1950s. The unique design of this model makes the chair an object for true connoisseurs of iconic design. Born in Milan to a middle-class family with maternal roots on Lake Garda, whose almost Mediterranean nature (olive trees, vines, cypresses, "limonere") will be a constant presence in his work. After classical studies and a degree in Architecture, he worked for a year in the studio of Gio Ponti, whom he would succeed in 1962 at the Milan Polytechnic in the chair of Interior Architecture, Furniture and Decoration. He did most of his architecture, staging and design work from the postwar period to the early 1970s. His work as a designer closely linked to theoretical thinking, puts the person at the center of the project, privileges the process of forming spaces and objects rather than their being, and opens to their mutual relationships. It is a constant quest that urges him to create new forms, contributing to the renewal of taste and trends in Italian architecture and design.
