About the Item

Elettrica Chair by Qvinto Studio Unique Piece. Handmade. Dimensions: D 40 x W 40 x H 114 cm. Materials: stainless steel. In the Elettrica, the backrest reprises the solar rays which occupy the top part of the canvas in Offer to the Sun by Giorgio de Chirico. In the painting a promontory arises as a dividing line between opposite and connecting worlds, suggested by a simple undulating thread, which we find too in the lines of the chair. The aesthetic experience translates itself in the art of De Chirico in the opportunity to access a metaphysical, aspatial and timeless dimension, by means of an inward gaze. This gaze inspires the form of the eye at the base of the backrest, a symbol of the subjective cognitive process. COLLEZIONE SURREALISTA Inspired by the Surrealists, an exclusive collection of eight chairs takes life. The collection is produced entirely in Italy using metals with certified provenance and was created by a team of artisans with the highest level of craftsmanship. Each chair was created and finished by hand, giving each individual piece and the collection as a whole a particular uniqueness and value. With the choice of stainless steel, the chairs have an excellent capacity for resistance to atmospheric factors, meaning the chairs will age very slowly and therefore have a longer ecological life cycle. Another fundamental aspect, from the perspective of sustainability of materials is to ask oneself: ‘what happens at the end of the life cycle of a product’? As in this case, the intrinsic resources must not be lost, but must be reintroduced into the system to create new value. Steel produced from recycled material does not show any degradation in mechanical properties, thus being indistinguishable from “new” material. Furthermore, steel is never depleted, but continuously transformed through recycling processes. This process perfectly describes the concept of “permanent material”, the crux of the circular economy. Steel is 100% recyclable. Each chair is produced with its own cushion made with high quality fabrics in collaboration with Kvadrat. The cushion is joined to the chair through a magnetic system consisting of four magnets which are invisible at first glance as they are inserted inside the cushion cover and inside four millings in the metal sheet of the seat. The colouring of the cushion fabric is chosen to echo the colour scheme of the work of art to which it refers. All eight chairs are available with or without cushion: Elettrica, Ciclope, Jenga, Musa, Jungle, Legend, Classica and Melody. Please contact us. Qvinto Studio In one of the interviews given to Franco Simongini in the 1970s, Giorgio de Chirico defined painting as ‘a pleasure, a sense of satisfaction, a source of entertainment of the highest order’ - a poetic statement which echoes Surrealism’s invitation to explore the playful aspect of art. Through art the Surrealists proposed that the expressive freedom of childhood could be recovered to give space to the unsettling realm of the unexpected, of infinite associative possibilities and of their ever more infinite interpretations. Surrealism was an aesthetic journey which through the years gave rise to a vastly varied body of work and which today has inspired the concept behind this project. Taking as a reference point eight surrealist avant-garde paintings in which the banal object takes on unexpected new meanings, accordingly the conventionality of the chair as an object is gradually chipped away. Through this artistic process Marta Quinto creates eight new entities, each putting forward its own meanings, associations, and unanswered questions.
