French Green Pair of chairs in carved and gilded wood, Louis XV style
About the Item
Beautiful pair of chairs beginning of 20th century in the classic French Louis XV style. Carved and gilded wood with an aged effect. Seat and back upholstered in a dull but satiny olive green satin thanks to the effect of the fabric. Quilted backrest. The original style dates back to the 18th century and is characterized by curved shapes, in contrast to the more rigid styles that preceded it. In this chair, a modern adaptation can be seen, in which the elegant character is maintained, but with a more sober interpretation, present in the slightly oval backrest and curved legs.
In a very good condition with age and use , only it would be necessary to reinforce the upholstery springs, but they are the original ones.
More about the Louis XV Style
The Louis XV Style is an artistic style, especially present in the decorative arts, which developed during the reign of Louis XV (1715-1774). Initially the name "Louis XV Style" referred to a characteristic type of chair, but it soon spread to all the arts of the time. This style was created by cabinetmakers as a result of a major technical advance in the manufacture of wooden furniture. It is identified with the architectural style called Rococo. Like Rococo, it has profuse decoration and detail, in contrast to the later "Louis XVI Style", which was simpler in tendency.
