Japanese Antique Primitive Chair 1860s-1920s / Side Chair Wabi Sabi

About the Item

This is an old primitive style chair made in Japan. Originally used as a threshing mortar, it is a very rare piece that has been improved and made into a chair. The millstone itself is estimated to be from the Meiji and Taisho periods (1860s-1920s), and it is a valuable folk tool that has remained in the modern age after more than 100 years. In the past, people used their wisdom and ingenuity to transform familiar tools into practical items and integrate them into their daily lives. This chair also retains that spirit, and gives us a sense of its history as a tool and the warmth of its users. The chair has an attractive, deeply seasoned look that suggests it has been used with care over many years, with repeated repairs. The marks from the hatchet remain in places, giving it a rustic and rugged appearance, while the natural grain and cracks of the wood highlight its beauty over time. It has been cleaned and can be used with confidence immediately upon arrival. The seat can be used as it is, but you can add a cushion for more comfort if you like. The primitive beauty of its form is filled with the beauty of daily life and wisdom of reuse unique to the Japanese. It blends naturally with contemporary spaces and quietly radiates a sense of presence. It is truly a gem that embodies the spirit of wabi-sabi. Weight: approx. 35 kg ______________________________________ Our Philosophy Objects always tell the truth. All I can do is just to face with them sincerely and give them deep affection as much as I can. There is no boundary of nationalities and of eras in beauty. But I think now is the time we choose 'Japanese style' and it will be the best way to remind us of what we are losing today and to question us about an essence of beauty again. I hope that you can touch the memories which the objects here have, feel and think of something invisible but exists undoubtedly.
