About the Item

An incredible pair of John Risley "Nun" Chairs. John Risley (1919-2001) was an American artist and designer whose work ranged from utilitarian objects and furniture, to sculpture and fine arts. Risley was raised in Waterville, Maine. He was educated at Amherst, the Rhode Island School of Design and the Cranbrook Academy. His wire people sculpture chairs are utilitarian as well as pieces of Art. Chairs made by John Risley developed a cult following and considered very sought after. This pair is in very good vintage condition and would make an excellent design element either inside our outside. Risley was a professor at Wesleyan University from 1954 - 1988.
