Klause Grabe Architect Built Strap Lounge Chair

Klause Grabe Architect built strap lounge chair. Hand built lounge chair with strapping and modular wood frame. Klaus Grabe was a German designer and architect who emigrated to the United States with fellow Bauhaus members in 1933. Influenced by Breuer's works in plywood, Grabbe's designs of the late 1940s were produced in limited numbers using fine crafted organic materials and surplus canvas. Few of these chairs remain and were very influential on many designers including Jens Risom. Small chips off of the veneer (see photos). This chair was sold as a kit to be assembled by the owner, in this case a modernist architect the previous and only owner. His skill and attention to detail are evident and the chair retains tape with finely measured marking for placing the straps.
