Late 19th Century Caned Chairs
About the Item
Stunning French late 19th century caned chairs; all caning was done by hand and has stayed unbelievably strong for years. Antique French Country hand caned seat, walnut chair. Has a banister back armchair having scalloped crest and bottom rails, turned finials, and bulbous front spindles. The history of cane furniture is a long one. This art has been practiced for centuries and dates all the way back to ancient Egypt, over the last three millennia, the types of chair caning and the materials used haven't changed drastically. Which is lovely to know that this technique has been proven reliable for thousands of years. Some areas of the chair have been touched up with black paint, but other than that it has all of it's original pieces. Would look lovely in a sunroom, dining room, living space, or a bedroom. Can be used practically or decoratively.
