Mario Marenco & Antonella Scarpitta "830" Chairs for Mobil Girgi, 1980, Set of 4

About the Item

Mario Marenco & Antonella Scarpitta "830" chairs for Mobil Girgi, Cognac leather, Italy, 1980s, set of four. The "830" dining chairs by Mario Marenco and Antonella Scarpitta for Mobil Girgi, designed in 1980, showcase exceptional craftsmanship and innovative design. The front legs are crafted from a single curved piece of beechwood, an advanced technique reminiscent of Thonet's woodworking mastery. This seamless construction creates a continuous flow from the legs to the arched connector and seat support, emphasizing visual fluidity. With a clear recall of the minimalistic design of Afra & Tobia Scarpa design, the backrest is a single wave-shaped wooden board veneered in walnut with visible vertical grain patterns that enhance the natural beauty of the material. The seat, upholstered in its original cognac leather, features tone-on-tone stitching, adding subtle texture while highlighting the precision of the design. The combination of three materials - beechwood, walnut veneer, and leather - creates a sophisticated interplay of textures. Well-known for the design of "Sapporo" chairs, Marenco conceived the chairs' refined proportions and thoughtful use of materials demonstrating a deep understanding of both form and function. Each chair remains in excellent original condition, with only minor signs of wear that attest to their age and authenticity. Our atelier restored and reupholstered the chairs. We offer custom restoration and special reupholstering on request. Contact us to create the object you desire.

Mario Marenco Sapporo chairs for Mobil Girgi Italy 1970
By Mobil Girgi, Mario Marenco
Located in Roosendaal, Noord Brabant
Wonderful set of Sapporo dining chairs designed by Mario Marenco for Mobil Girgi in Italy in 1970. These chairs are made from Italian walnut with a stunning grain pattern. The seats are original and have aged beautiful, showing a charming, worn-in leather look. What makes these chairs special is their unique design. They have a hammer-shaped backrest that looks nice and provides good support. The seats are wide and comfortable for long meals. One cool thing about these chairs is how they're put together. Two slim slats go from the top of the backrest all the way down to the bottom, where they connect with a horizontal slat. This design makes the chairs look simple and modern. Kindly note that the chairs are priced and sold in a set of 6 but we have 12 of these chairs available as shown on the pictures. Mario Marenco was born in 1933. He studied architecture in Naples and won research grants for Stockholm and Chicago. In 1960 he opened in Rome his own atelier of architecture and...
