About the Item
This is a wooden low chair, believed to have been made in a region such as Southeast Asia. With its tall backrest and low seat height, it pairs beautifully with floor-level tables or low tea tables, making it an ideal piece for relaxed and grounded living.
What is noteworthy is the simple yet powerful beauty of its design. The seat and backrest are each carved from a single thick piece of wood, and the clean structure made up of just these two parts exudes a somewhat modern impression, while eliminating any decorative elements. It has a good balance between practicality and design, and exudes a unique presence that can be seen as both a folk craft and an art piece.
Over time, the surface has developed a rich, deep patina. On the back and underside, the natural texture of the wood remains exposed, with areas retaining their raw, rugged grain. A section on the back of the backrest has been repaired by bonding a crack in the wood, and there are also splits near the feet. However, neither significantly affects usability. These signs of aging and restoration add to the chair’s appeal, telling part of its long history.
The chair offers stable seating, allowing one to relax and lean back comfortably. There is a slight rattling, so we recommend attaching felt pads or similar adjustments when placing it in your space.
With a solid weight of 14.15 kg, the chair stays firmly in place, offering a reassuring sense of stability. Its understated yet bold design makes it a versatile piece that harmonizes with a variety of interiors—from modern and minimalist spaces to Japanese, Asian, or even industrial-style environments. It exudes a quiet presence with a touch of untamed character.
