About the Item

Pedro Friedeberg (Mexican, b. January 11, 1936) is an Italian-born Mexican artist and designer known for his surrealist work. His best known piece is the “Hand Chair”, a sculptural chair designed for people to sit on the palm, using the fingers as back and arm rests. His works can be found in the permanent collections of many museums worldwide, including the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago, the Library of Congress in Washington DC, the Musée du Louvre in Paris, and so many other museums. The present chair was hand sculpted from stacked mahogany wood. Except for a few minor scratches consistent with its age, the chair is in otherwise very good condition. It is signed on the inside of the base “PEDRO FRIEDEBERG”. DIMENSIONS: Height: 36 in. (91.4 cm.) Width: 20 in. (50.8 cm.) Depth: 23 in. (58.4 cm.)
