About the Item

Peter Behrens Bauhaus Industrial tubular steel chair, which was designed and manufactured in Germany circa 1930. Documented Design: Peter Behrens (1868 Hamburg-1949 Berlin) Peter Behrens was a famed German Architect, painter, designer and typograph. He was a leading representative person from the modern Industrial design. Also Peter Behrens was the co-founder from German Werkbund. This very rare chair by Peter Behrens was part of the furnishing of the tobacco factory in Linz ( Upper Austria ), which was designed by Peter Behrens from 1928 to 1935. The seat and the back are adjustable. The chair was made of meander like tubular steel partly with old chromium, while the seat and back were made of solid beech. The back is provided with original Linoleum. The chair is in original condition and shows signs of age and use. Originally this char was adjustable in the height, but through the strong lasting for years two screws are broken, which we decided not to exchange to maintain the original condition for the museum piece. approx. measures: Width: 49 cm Depth: 58 cm Height: 90.5 cm Seat height: 53.5 cm Literature: Industrial Furniture, Prototypes of the modern era (MAK studies) p. 50-60 Bentwood and Beyond Thonet and Modern Furniture Design, Sebastian Hackenschmidt and Wolfgang Thillmann p. 218
