About the Item
A one-of-a-kind postmodern hand painted wooden chair from the studio of furniture designer Ralph Rye – referred to as the “Variations” design. Circa 2002. Signed on underside as well as hand-painted logo in purple on the side. Geometric designs with colorful inlays in light lavender, blue, red, and yellow. Trimmed in 22k gold. Cushioned seat and back in a neutral blue upholstery with striped design. Influence from geometric color furniture concepts by De Stijl designers such as Gerrit Thomas Rietveld. An opportunity to own an original design by an influential modern designer. Dimensions: 36”h x 22.5”w x 20.5”d x 25.5” arm height x 19” seat height x 19.5” seat depth. In excellent vintage condition. Provenance: From the personal collection of designer Ralph Rye – a multi-talented visionary with a career in city planning, architecture, interior design, lighting, and furniture design. Rye has collaborated with some of the finest furniture companies in America including Dunbar, Nessen, Thonet, Jens Risom, and Baker.
