Rye for Marble Furniture Co. Chair Prototype Tubular Steel Cushion Lenor Larsen

About the Item

A unique chair prototype – a lounge chair by Ralph Rye for Marble Furniture Company. Circa 1970. The frame is constructed with tubular steel, powder coated in blue. Cushion seat, upholstered in Jack Lenor Larsen fabric, original to the prototype. Prior to Ralph Rye studying design at the University of Cincinnati, he worked in a steel factory which gave him the foundation for molding metals for furniture designs. Ralph Rye originally took this prototype to Knoll then to Marble Furniture Company who took on the design. Very few of these chairs are in existence. Dimensions: 26.5”h x 34.5”d x 39”w x 22.75”arm height x 17”seat height x 22”seat depth. In good vintage condition. Provenance: From the personal collection of designer Ralph Rye – a multi-talented visionary with a career in city planning, architecture, interior design, lighting, and furniture design. Rye has collaborated with some of the finest furniture companies in America including Dunbar, Nessen, Thonet, Jens Risom, and Baker.
