About the Item

A rare set of four Regency black painted standard or dining chairs with rush seats. Each chair is complemented with hand painted characterful backrests adorned with classical and floral motifs with beautiful colouring and texture. Each chair has double parallel stretchers to the sides united by a X-shape stretcher to the front beneath the seat. The stretchers are complemented with subtle freehand pen work in gold to each. All raised on gently sweeping turned saber legs. The chairs are strong and sturdy with no movement to the joints and good for everyday use in the home. A remarkable set of chairs in wonderful country house condition. The price is for the set of four chairs. English, circa 1815.
