About the Item

The "Cantilever Design" especially with regard to furniture is a real minefield between records and patents ready to make any design enthusiast discuss among themselves. Who was the first to use tubular steel for furniture production between Marcel Breuer, Mart Stam and Ludwig Mies van der Rohe could be argued endlessly but we can tell that the undisputed winner of this challenge is certainly Anton Lorenz, the only holder, for many years, of the patent for the construction of any type of cantilever chair. Cantilever chairs have been the subject of many legal battles, over the years they have been produced by Standard-Mobel, Thonet, Gavina in Italy and today by Knoll, today as in the past they are the emblem of modernity and industrial production, made with materials suitable for mass production without having to give up on aesthetics. Intrinsically linked to the innovation of materials and the rationalist design principles of the Bauhaus design school, the cantilever chairs are still a current piece of furniture despite the fact that the project is more than 90 years old. Those that we offer for sale are a set consisting of 6 pieces on which a conservative restoration has been carried out. Made in Italy around the 1960s, their highlight is the splendid color given by the patina of time. The Vienna straw was replaced on a couple of seats and then the color was combined with the older ones that have a darker Vienna straw. They show some minimal signs of oxidation on the tubular metal visible in the photos. They are stable and solid chairs, perfect for lovers of the original vintage patina, for those who appreciate the passage of time on objects dear to us.
