19th Century Colonial Mahogany Plantation Lounge Cane Chair

About the Item

An exquisite mid-19th-century traditional Anglo-Indian Colonial plantation chair, sourced from Provence, France. Beautifully hand-crafted from solid mahogany wood with a carved crown and oversized frame with an intricately hand-woven cane seat and backrest in intact condition, showcasing a naturally aged tan color. The cane weave is exceptionally fine and tightly braided, a labor-intensive technique requiring immense skill and precision. The chair has been structurally revised throughout and constructed with exposed wooden dowels, then gently refinished to highlight the rich, warm brown tones of the wood. The gracefully curved frame features long, wide, flat arms with extended ends for resting the legs, a classic element of plantation-style chairs. It rests on hand-carved turned legs and remains solid and stable, exemplifying a traditional British Colonial profile with a rare and finely detailed cane design. - Sourced in Provence, France; Origin India - Dimensions: W 25.25"/61" x D 43.5" x H 35.25" - seat dimensios: W 19.5" x D 20" x H 13"; Arm height 22" - Condition: Structurally restored and gently refinished.
