About the Item

Originally crafted for transatlantic cruises from Brazil to Europe, this exquisite chaise lounge features a hard wood structure adorned with a luxurious ultra suede upholstery. Its versatile reclining mechanism offers two comfortable positions, catering to optimal relaxation. Equipped with front legs fitted with wheels, this chaise lounge ensures easy mobility from one location to another. The manufacturer's seal remains intact behind the backrest, adding authenticity to its provenance. Recently refinished, the wood displays its natural beauty with subtle signs of age that enhance its character while maintaining excellent condition. The hardware has been polished and is in great condition too. Ideal for both historical enthusiasts and modern decor enthusiasts, this piece blends functionality with timeless elegance. Dimensions in both positions are as follows: Upright: H 39.4" x D 31.5" x W 24". Seat Height: 16.5 Reclined: H 25" x D 57" x 24" About Walter Gerdau: In 1908 the small ‘Fábrica de Móveis Navegantes’, in Porto Alegre, was bought by German businessman Johannes Gerdau and his son Walter. Walter, the manager of the business, started the fabrication of bentwood furniture, in the Viennese style developed by the Austrian Michel Thonet in the second half of the 19th century. Although the furniture of the Gerdau family can be found in many places in Brazil, the Gerdau designs have remained a bit of an unknown legacy.
