A Fabulous French Leather Club Chair, Chapeau de Gendarme Model, Circa 1940’s
This handsome chair is a beautiful example of an early French leather club chair. The leather has worn perfectly in all the right places. The quality of the upholstery and leather suggests it is artisan made, using upholstery techniques, now lost in the passage of time. We specialise in original, French, leather club chairs. Even though our stock is quite consistent, finding original club chairs in a very good, original condition is a constant challenge. With our partners in France, we are always on the lookout and our chairs can be found anywhere from a local brocante to a chateau sale, from the north to the south of France.
In our experience, nearly all the chairs will need attention to the springs, after all they're not just objects of beauty, they are to be used. In addition, the leather on our chairs is always nourished and the upholstery cleaned.
