About the Item
Pair of Art Deco Colonial Armchairs in Carved Wood, French Algeria, Circa 1930
We are delighted to present this elegant pair of Art Deco Colonial armchairs, crafted from carved wood and decorated with Berber motifs.
These remarkable pieces, dating from the 1930s, are a testament to the refinement of decorative arts applied to colonial-style furniture under French rule in North Africa, particularly in Algeria.
Each armchair is a work of art, made from stained beech wood and adorned with carved motifs that evoke the richness of Berber traditions.
The overall shape is inspired by the designs of Francis Jourdain, a prominent figure in Art Deco, and could well have originated from the famous Ateliers du Minaret or Galeries Barbès, which were influential during this period.
Although showing some signs of wear on the seat coverings, these pieces are in generally good condition and retain an ageless elegance that will enhance any refined interior.
