Todd Merrill Studio has been the exclusive representative of Alex Roskin since 2017. Roskin’s works blend functional design with modernist sculptural references. A natural successor of innovative artists such as Richard Serra, Jean Arp, and Constantin Brancusi, Roskin’s cast bronze, stainless steel, and carved wood works reflects the artist’s modernist and primitive influences. Beginning with a series of quick sketches, Roskin captures the movement of a basic form. By sculpting in foam and wood, Roskin translates that movement into a structural model that is then 3D scanned so that it can then be cast in bronze, aluminum or steel, and finished with carved wood elements. All chairs are offered COM/COL. His works often feature a mammalian physicality with heaving sinuous forms and legs that extend from the body in a bowed fashion. Today in addition to his fine art glass sculptures, Jamie Harris is creating unique, hand-made sculptural lighting. His Nested Disc series plays on layered geometries to create sophisticated lighting structures built from tiered levels of blown glass roundel forms. Ranging in sizes up to 36 inches, each organically shaped roundel is meticulously sized, its color chosen to interact with the neighboring level. As you walk around the piece, light bounces and cascades down, blending each shade while also responding to the surrounding light environment. By altering the opacity, hue, employing metallic finishes, or creating opalescent and iridescent surfaces, the works can sit at either ends of the spectrum from minimal to extravagant. Available by commission, each work is unique and fully customizable, from layout, sizing, coloration and finish.
