About the Item

Extraordinary daybed following the lines of the Modern Movement of the mid-twentieth century, with Mies van der Rohe being one of the greatest representatives. It has a very light metal structure, supported on 4 slender square legs. The armrests open outwards and are upholstered in imitation leather and finished with studs. The rectangular cushion or mattress rests on a slatted base and is newly upholstered in bottle green quilted velvet, with two rolls that complete the set. The design adopts a decidedly modern aesthetic, with elegance, comfort and simplicity as its priority, characteristics that make it easily combinable both in an environment that follows the modern aesthetic line and in a more classical one. Modern Movement The Modern Movement began in 20th century architecture, but soon spread to design. It was formed as a reaction and break with classical architecture, proposing a much more functional architecture and design, in which form followed function, free of decorative artifice. In both architecture and furniture, all decorative objects were dispensed with and it was simply limited to utility, from which its beauty was derived. It was the Bauhaus School of art and design, founded in 1919 by Gropius in Weimar, Germany, which championed the total commitment to functionalism, logic, order and purity of lines. It introduced the concept of “good design”, rejecting ornamentation, supporting the use of industrial materials and defending the ethical dimension of both the architect and the designer. When the Bauhaus movement was banned by Hitler in Nazi Germany in 1933, its impact had already spread throughout the world. Its legacy is essential, as it laid the foundations, standards and patterns for what we know today as industrial and graphic design. It is newly upholstered with a beautiful English green velvet fabric Technical data Daybed Style: Modern Movement Materials: metal, leatherette, velvet Period: Mid-century Country of origin: Germany Good condition according to its age and use Closed dimensions: 58 x 132 x 70 cm.
