About the Item
Set of four antique oak chairs with neoclassical pressbacks. Features ribbed spindle backs, cane seat and slender legs connected by matching stretchers.
Pressback chairs were popular in the late 1800s and 1900s. Manufacturers engraved patterns into a metal plate and then pressed the patterns into the wood. In 1902, Sears offered a pressback for 63¢ in their catalogue.
