About the Item

A gorgeous and extremely rare set of 4 Pugin-style gothic golden oak steeple back chairs in wonderful condition. Likely made around the Mid-20th Century, these beautifully crafted and highly decorative chairs make knockout dining or accent chairs and will add super quality, gorgeous colouring and bygone sophistication to any interior. Expertly crafted from beautifully toned solid oak ranging from golden-honey to nutty brown, they have beautiful tiger oak grain patterning, are reassuringly heavy and have a wealth of fabulous carved detailing to admire. Crafted in the Gothic Revival style after Victorian design giant Pugin, these fabulous chairs hark back to the medieval Gothic period and their wonderful carvings include show-stopping and very impressive 'steeple' backs with knockout detailing including a triptych of church windows below beautiful steeple-shaped crest rails. They have wonderfully impressive front legs, their beautifully decorative turnings flanking standout central octagonal trunks, decorative wavy recessed front aprons below good-sized bordered seats with beautifully curving back legs below angled backs. All in all this is an exceptional and rare set of 4 steeple back chairs, which wouldn't look out of place in a cathedral or the grandest of manor houses and will enhance any setting with their superb carvings, colouring and quality. We can also sell as two pairs – please enquire if interested. CONDITION This set is in very good-to-excellent condition. Structurally sound, wonderfully crafted and built to last of excellent quality and reassuringly heavy solid light oak, they have been refinished to bring out the gorgeous golden oak colouring and show only the most minor signs of their age.
