Her parents were designers for European dynasties, and her extended family in Milan were antique dealers. The couple worked as decorators for the Austrian royal family before establishing their business to produce furniture and accessories for the French nobility. Arcangelo brought an enterprising spirit, while Giovanna provided an extensive knowledge of design, taste and style.

The company’s sophisticated and high-quality furniture was a resounding success. By the early 20th century, Salda was a top furniture supplier for many of Europe’s aristocratic families. Buyers were attracted to the preservation of historical techniques and details and the clean and simple elegance of Salda furniture.

Salda has produced furniture for ultra-luxury hotels in Rome, Milan, Paris and Monaco. Today, each new Salda creation comes from the extensive Besana family archives. Brimming with original drawings and sketches, the archives have been carefully preserved and passed down through the generations.
