About the Item
Claudio Salocchi “Napoleone” dining chair for Sormani, cognac leather and wood, Italy, 1972,
This captivating “Napoleone” chair, designed in 1972 by Claudio Salocchi for Sormani, exemplifies the designer’s pursuit of balance between expressive form and functional clarity. Departing from conventional typologies, the chair rests on a bold architectural base: rather than four legs, a single central support emerges from a blunt, angular structure, rising to meet the seat through a crisp rectangular plane. The backrest—triangular in form—introduces a subtle curve, softening the composition with unexpected grace.
Crafted in polished black lacquered wood, the chair exudes a sense of sculptural precision and modern strength. It encapsulates Salocchi’s vision of design as an intellectual and spatial discipline, where radical aesthetics and ergonomic function coexist seamlessly.

Giuseppe Davanzo 'Serena' Dining Chair in Ash
Located in Waalwijk, NL
Giuseppe Davanzo for Appiani Selezione, dining chair 'Serena', ash, plastic, Italy, 1960s
This dining chair was designed by Giuseppe Davanzo in the 1960s. On an ash frame rest the round seat and backrest. The frame shows a warm tone of the ash wood with black metal connections. The seat and backrest are made out of red plastic, that catches the eye immediately. Due to their roundness, bent edges and their attractive color the chair has a certain playful character.
Giuseppe Davanzo (1921-2007) was born in Ponte di Piave. After serving in the Second World War, Davanzo studied at the Regio Istituto Universitario di Architettura in Venice. His work was mostly influenced by Carlo Scarpa and Franco Albini. The designer died...
