About the Item

A set of six Brazilian hardwood dining chairs, designed by Novo Rumo, 1960s, each with a slung tan faux leather back, over a floating seat. Brazilian exotic hardwood frame with original brass screws and detailing. The solid wood patterns and grain are beautiful: a deep dark brown colour with graciously varying paterns hardwood combining with flashes of lighter brown tones. Sophisticated yet simple design, these chairs were produced in the 1960's by Moveis Novo Rumo, a furniture manufacture founded by Francesco Scapinelli, Giuseppe Scapinelli's brother. The design of these chairs resemble Zalszupin's design due to the former L'Atellier workers contribution at Moveis Novo Rumo production The subtle sophistication of the details in this design makes these chairs really special. Note the thin elliptical wood section shape of the two sides and under seat front pieces, combined with the slim circle section of the legs, the chamfered ends of these round sections, also the chamfered ends of the back rest support. Very well engineered, and a good example that detail is not a detail, and beautiful simplicity is a very difficult thing to achieve. Despite the slim look and slung back design, the chair seat is very firm: once user sits on the chair, the seat does not move as the user’s weight stretches the back rest and seat together into a firm position. The great craftsmanship is a regular in Novo Rumo pieces, and these chairs are in great vintage condition.

Organic Shape Chair by Moveis Cimo, Brazil 1950s
By Moveis Cimo
Located in Whitstable, GB
Small curved chair with organic shaped ivory wood base, 'Pau Marfim'. Brazil, 1950s. The wooden frame is really eye catching; the organic shape frame is divided into three parts, with beautiful rounded edges and curves. There are some minor marks of wear and age, normal in a vintage piece, but frame is in excellent condition. The slightly angled back and seating appear to float on the frame. This chair design is very unique, and at the same time, very ergonomic: The seat and backrest provide a very comfortable seating experience. New upholstery in a light green zigzag fabric.
