Ercol Windsor Kitchen chair 50s Vintage Ercol Hoop Back Dining Chair Mid Century Ercol are an iconic British furniture company started by Lucian Ercolani, an Italian immigrant and Cabinet Maker in the 1930’s. They are known for their elegant sleek designs and use of quality conditioned timbers such as Beech, Ash and Elm. Some of their designs from their heyday in the 1960’s and 70’s are today highly sought after and collectable. The company have produced many of the iconic pieces of retro mid Century furniture and are still family-operated today. 1 chair available of the 4A Chairs which were one of the first mass-produced chairs made by the company. The chair features a bow seatback containing 5 spindles with a oyster shaped seats. This design was launched by Ercol in 1956 and the timbers used typical of Ercol in that time period. The Chair has a Beech wood frame, back spindles and legs. The oyster-shaped seat is constructed from solid Elm. This chair is shown in an advertisement in 'The Cabinet Maker' 26 May 1956 and is identified as model 4a. The chair has an amazing history and yet are still ready for use today. This early design is more utilitarian than the later Ercol Windsor models which have a softer, more refined design – it’s fascinating to see where the classic Windsor design started and how it evolved. Mix and match with other Ercol dining chair models for a contemporary dining area. We believe the darker finish on these chairs to be original. Condition: Original vintage condition No looses joints We have been thoroughly cleaned and checked, we have left their finish well-alone. Dimensions 40 cm wide 45 cm depth (40 seat depth) 87 cm high (44 seat height).
