About the Item

This is a pair of antique hall chairs. An English, oak, occasional dining seat displaying ecclesiastical taste, dating to the late Victorian period, circa 1900. Robust and impressively stout chairs with beautiful figuring. Displaying a desirable aged patina and in good order. Select oak shows superb grain interest and wisps of medullary rays. Rich caramel hues beam beneath the wax polish finish. Finished with prominent tapering finials to each side. The top rail with recessed panel, dressed with unmarked nickel brass plates. Field panel to centre relief carved with the initials LHS set within a medallion. Offers a comfortable seat height of 46cm (18''). Stood upon decorated square section legs to the front with short spade feet. Attractive shaped brackets add a flourish to each leg. Gently splayed rear legs united front to back by H-stretcher.
