S16 Dining Chair By Galvanitas – Compass Collection – Pair
S16 Dining Chair By Galvanitas – Compass Collection – Pair. The classic Dutch compass leg chair was perhaps originally created by Prouve who then inspired a number of beautiful chair designs in the late 1950’s. Friso Kramer and Wim Rietveld designed the result chair in the 1950’s alongside the S16 chair designed and produced by Galvanitas. The S16 came from this creative period with its classic compass leg sub frame, made from a sheet steel frame with a fine laminated and formed seat and back by Pagholz. The chairs are a good comfortable scale and are a design classic. We service each chair individually before they leave our workshop and we deliver chairs of excellent quality. Seat Height 47cm
WORKSHOP REPORT
Our workshop team inspect every product and carry out any needed repairs to ensure that everything leaves us serviced and maintained ready for many more years of life. All of our vintage products show the rich beauty and history of their life with the knocks and bumps of many years of use and we try to minimise restoration to keep every piece as original as possible.

For sale is a lovely set of four Galvanitas S16 Compass Chairs, arguably the most iconic school chair ever produced. The first to design with sheet metal was obviously Jean Prouve, but in The Netherlands the experiments with these classic compass leg subframes really exploded in the 1950s.
Friso Kramer and Wim Rietveld designed the similar looking Result Chair for Ahrend in the same period, but the S16 turned out to be the most successful —featuring in most schools and canteens of office- and government buildings.
