Sculpted and comfortable Sumi Arm Chair by Erickson Woodworking
About the Item
The Sumi Arm Chair by Erickson Woodworking is a fully sculpted, fully functional and comfortable dining or occasional chair. Every curve of the Sumi Arm Chair has been developed over decades of chair design and building by Robert and Tor Erickson, from the scoop of the seat, to the curves of the arms that match the sitters hands, to the height and tilt of the seat.
This chair is built from solid North American hardwoods, most often the highly prized California or Claro walnut, the most luxurious and figured of all US woods. It can also be built in a variety of other woods such as cherry, from the Eastern hardwood forests, or bigleaf maple, from Oregon and Washington State.
Every Sumi Arm Chair is crafted by hand, and finished to silky perfection in a process developed by Erickson Woodworking over decades of building furniture.
With pieces in the Smithsonian's Museum of American Art, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, and the Yale University Art Gallery, Erickson Woodworking brings in elements of mid-century modern, California craftsman, and modern sculpture in a way that are uniquely its own.4300
