Set of four dining chairs, Oregon pine, fabric, Denmark, 1970s
Skillfully carved, these 1970s chairs from Danish origin have a kind of quiet, fairy tale quality; like something you would find in the corner of a cabin deep in the woods. The shape is unusual, reflecting the era’s functional yet expressive design ethos. The shape is distinctly sculptural, vividly expressed through the dramatic “X” silhouette of the legs. The backrest has this wide, winged shape, resembling the shape of a butterfly. Every line and curve has been considered – it feels oversized, yet in a charming way. The fabric’s red and black stripes add contrast to the soft, warm wood, which has that golden Oregon pine glow.
