Set of 6 Henning Kjærnulf Dining Chairs, Oak and Rubelli Bouclé, Denmark, 1960s
About the Item
This striking set of six dining chairs was designed by Henning (Henry) Kjærnulf in the 1960s. Produced by Nyrup Møbelfabrik in Denmark, these chairs represent a rare variant of Kjærnulf’s Razorblade series.
The set is crafted from solid oak, showcasing a beautiful grain and rich color. The frames are distinguished by their scalloped details and rounded backrests and aprons, while the signature razorblade pattern—a hallmark of Kjærnulf’s design—adds a bold, sculptural element. Striking carved details adorn the legs and stiles, reinforcing the organic, Danish modern aesthetic.
The chairs are in overall very good condition, having been restored while preserving the original patina of the oak wood. The seats have been completely renewed and reupholstered in a luxurious ivory Rubelli bouclé fabric.
Kjærnulf’s style, with its organic modern and occasional brutalist influences, aligns well with the Scandinavian modern tradition. His preference for raw, pure woods such as oak, combined with his distinctive carved details, places his work in an international context alongside designers such as Charlotte Perriand, Pierre Chapo, and Guillerme et Chambron, who were active during the same era.
